Ordered these flip up magnifiers to use with my distance glasses. Gives me just the right magnification to see the computer screen.

4 out of 5 stars Scratch free clip on magnifiers   February 6, 2010

(The clips are scratch free, not the lenses. Just wanted to make that one clear :p)

I have always liked this type of magnifier because you can take them off if you just need safety glasses... or sun glasses, reading blah blah blah they clip on and don't scratch your eyeware! I, nor many people I know that use them care what the magnification is as long as it's not like crazy high like x3 or more. The ones that strap on to the head are better if the majority of your day needs to see the world smaller. The head band types put less stress on the eyes and usually are more comfortable, but only serve one purpose. The clip ons' are perfect for a machinist for example. Most of them need (and are often required) to wear safety glasses at all times. When you're marking out a part you can flip them down to see better then flip them up to go out in the shop, quick and clean. They are relatively light weight when flipped down but in the up position can put stress on the nose. This is where the removable quality is nice, if I know I'm not going to need them for a while, poof gone and stored until I do need them

The main reason I like them is because I can get some safety glasses that fit jusssssst right which can then do double duty as a magnifier when I need it. They come with a nice ~pouch~ that is good and thick ( and soft on the inside) to keep them from getting scratched. Plus I believe office depot is currently carrying this exact brand and style in their stores for around $8-$10 so you can chose amazon or in store (it's practically the same price for ether way too).

4 out of 5 stars pay attention to the difference between diopter and magnification   December 31, 2009

Note these are 1.5x. That is magnification, not diopter.

If you go to Walmart and look at their reading glasses, the values given there are in diopters. I knew I needed +1.50, but didn't know the difference between magnification and diopter, so got these. These are 1.5x, which is +2.25 diopter (a little too strong for me).

Now I've learned. A magnification number has an "x" at the end of it. A diopter number has a "+" in front of it. Reading glasses are usually given in diopters.

Magnification = (diopter / 4) + 1

So these are actually 1.5625 magnification, to be precise. But again, for reading glasses, the magnification is a distraction from what most people are looking for: diopters.

5 out of 5 stars Nice eyesight helpers for fine detailed work   December 22, 2009

I have older eyes and find that these little clip on magnifying glasses are great when used with my trifocals. Allows me to do fine detail work without having to tilt my head backwards. They then can be flipped up when not in use out of the way.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent clip ons for work   June 24, 2009

I have tried bifocals, but they gave me a headache every time. These are perfect for close work in the shop.

And to make some clarification, the 2.25 stamped on the bridge of the clip-ons is the diopter of the lens which is equal to 1.5x magnification.
